Meeting Minutes
April 28, 2025
Opening:
The meeting was called to order by Jeffrey Dobbs at the Alcona EMS building on M72 at 7:03pm.

Business:
Chairman’s Welcome
Jeff welcomed everyone to the meeting and asked that the elected officials in attendance speak before the meeting business takes place.
Dan O’Connor | Alcona County Schools Superintendent
Dan spoke in length about the two upcoming Millages that the school had on the Special Election ballot, on May 6th. He also answered questions from people in the meeting and left behind some brochures for us to share.
Carolyn Brummund | Alcona County Commissioner for District 3
Carolyn spoke about some of the things she’s doing in the county, and passed around a box of Narcan for everyone to see and to get familiar with. She recommends keeping 2 boxes of Narcan in your car and home at all times, in case you need to help a stranger, friend, or family member with it.
Adopt-a-Highway Update
Jeff thanked Bob, Greg, Jess, and himself for attending the cleanup and bagging up 8 bags of garbage along M-65.
Training Session Update
Jeff will be placing the training session video on YouTube or Rumble to share with the public.
Setting LRT Dinner Date & Updates
Jeff was able to secure three speakers for the LRT Dinner, for the date of October 18, 2025. While we are hopeful that we can secure the new Alcona Senior Events Center for our dinner, we are still waiting for them to officially open. The speakers he was able to secure at this time are: MIGOP Grassroots Vice Chair Chris Long, 1st Congressional District Chairwoman Daire Rendon, and State Senator Michele Hoitenga. He is still reaching out to Jim Runestad and others to speak at our event. Jeff plans to email Trump with an invitation as well, though, he is admittedly not hopeful for a visit from the President to our little county.
School Millage & AxMITax Articles Update
Jeff wrote the school millage article yesterday and published it on our website. He hopes to get the AxMITax article up soon.
Alpena Lincoln Day Dinner Report
Jeff and Jess attended the Alpena Lincoln Day Dinner and reported that they had Jack Bergman, Cam Cavitt, Michele Hoitenga, Mike Cox, and Bryan Posthumus to name a few. It was a nice event and had roughly 60 folks in attendance.
Township & County Committee Reports
County Committee Chair, Laurie Szczesny, was absent, so no report was given. Jess went through the minutes from all the townships and made a report. See the full report attached to these minutes.

Treasurer’s Report
After sending $135 to the Alcona County Fair for our booth and sponsorship, we have $1876.62 and $60.05 in our accounts.
Jess motioned to accept this report as presented from Carrie, and Nelson seconded the motion. No discussion. Motion passed.

New Business:
Potential Online Silent Auction to Kick Start Raising Funds
Much discussion was had about doing an online silent auction to help fundraise for our summer and autumn events. We are hoping to have the auction be held from June 7-14th, with the deadline for Silent Auction donations to be in by May 26th.

Acknowledges Jeff for his work on the article about the school millages on the website. He’s happy that there is a commitment from Dan O’Conner that going forward, Alcona Schools will not be putting up special election millages, in order to save funds, so more of the money can stay with the children.
Jess Dobbs
Mentioned that it was noted that a Republican Governor Candidate, Anthony Hudson was stealing AXMITAX Intellectual Property and attempting to solicit funds in their name, without Karla Wagner’s permission.
